Sgt. Tyrone Keith Davis

Tyrone Keith Davis was born on January 13, 1958, in San Diego, California. During his childhood, his family relocated to Oakland, California also known as the Bay Area. It was there that he fostered priceless relationships and ultimately decided to join the military.  While serving in the Army Tyrone faced many challenges but he persevered and became a sharpshooter and ultimately retired as a Sergeant.

During his life, he was blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Tyne’ (pronounced Tuh-Nay), a son in love named Rahsaan and a host of grandchildren. Tyrone had recently retired and decided to take longer visits to Texas to visit with his family. During his stay, in Texas, Tyrone needed minor medical care and decided to apply for VA medical benefits because his insurance in California only covered Emergency care out of state.

Tyrone was subsequently denied for VA medical Benefits because his income was over the maximum income threshold.  At that time, he did not know that income played a role in receiving VA Benefits. It was then that he learned that VA medical Benefits were similar to US Medicaid, but was for veterans.

on July 29, 2022, Tyrone passed away after a 1 year battle with liver cancer. Throughout his battle with cancer, Tyrone travelled back and forth between Texas and California because VA Medical Benefits were not available to him.

The TK Davis Foundation was founded to assist veterans and their families facing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.

LIVER CANCER AWARENESS

Liver cancer ranks as the sixth most prevalent cancer globally, and its likelihood increases with age, with a majority of cases being diagnosed in individuals over the age of 75.

Men face a significantly higher risk, with liver cancer being nearly three times more common in men than in women. Notably, the early stages of liver cancer typically manifest without noticeable symptoms, leading to the diagnosis of the disease at an advanced stage.

As the body's largest internal organ, the liver plays a crucial role in processing and storing nutrients. Additionally, it is responsible for the production of essential substances such as cholesterol, proteins like albumin and clotting factors, and lipoproteins that transport cholesterol. The liver also secretes bile and carries out numerous metabolic functions, including the detoxification of various classes of carcinogens. This emphasizes the importance of maintaining liver health through a balanced lifestyle and regular medical check-ups, especially for those in high-risk demographics.
